I am a historian of education with a focus on the history of social studies and citizenship education. My dissertation, Defending Democracy: Social Studies and Citizenship Education During World War II, explores the history of social studies and democratic citizenship education during the Second World War. While my main focus is historical research, I also research and design curricula for contemporary classroom challenges, most recently the emergence of conspiracy theories, teaching about 9/11 and the War on Terror, and other difficult histories.
What inspired me to join the Center is its mission of using historical knowledge to reckon with injustice and how to use that knowledge to advance social justice and build a more equitable society.
